Facebook as outpost on the interwebs

I’ve decided to try facebook again, though with a different approach this time. I’ve been thinking about this for a while. James uses it as an outpost online, a way to have a presence without getting sucked into the matrix too deeply. I began to wonder if I could do the same thing. As I stated way back when in May when I first started this blog, one of the main challenges for me with facebook was around maintaining/finding connections without having them exist only on facebook. I will limit my own use (like only going on once a day and maybe not updating my status all the time:)). I will link my blog to the profile, as a way to connect the profile to my main internet outlet. If it doesn’t work, and I find myself on more and more, then I will have James reset my password or deactivate it for a while.

I'd like to think there is a middle ground between no account and vein slapping junkie that I can manage, because it seems like many other people can, and I'd like to think I can too. We'll see how it goes.

  2. Comme toujours...c'est les autres!

The trouble with periodic facebook use is other people! If people presume that facebook is a good way to get in touch with you then occasional usage means missing information and accidental snubs.

In the effort for availability, it's so easy to get sucked back in!

  3. Very true! Some tactics that I know others use to help not get totally sucked in include not allowing access to their walls for posts, or only responding to posts via email, thereby not signing on all the time. Tricky business!
