A new passtime

As part of my study prep for my NP certification exam, I've been listening to audio recordings of lectures on the various topics I need to know. I put them on my iPhone and have started taking walks while listening to them on headphones. I've been playing them on shuffle which I have found to be pretty helpful in keeping me focused on what I am listening to. It's been great- I've been getting at least an hour walk in everyday plus some supplemental learning at the same time.

The other day, I was walking around Arlington center and listening to a part that was all OB/GYN. It was a little more enjoyable than other parts since that is the one area that I have some confidence around what I know. The lecturer on the recording was asking questions for her audience to answer. At this point I was near the end of my walk and was totally immersed in the recordings. I had even caught myself laughing out loud at some of the jokes. The lecturer asked about a scenario in which a woman who is 40 weeks pregnant is in labor. She asked, "how do you know she is in labor?"

Excited because I knew the answer without having to think about it, I called out, "cervical changes!!"

I had been standing at a crosswalk waiting to cross with a man standing next to me. At the point of my enthused response to the question only I heard, he moved away from me. Then he proceeded to cross ahead of me and kept looking back, giving me "what is wrong with you??" looks.

I guess he wasn't as excited about cervical changes as I was. Oh well.

So if you are in the Arlington area over the next few weeks and you hear random medical things being yelled out, keep an eye out for me, my green earphones and my purple bandana, power walking and sharing the knowledge:)
